Dragon Ride

The 2019 version of the Vitus Dragon Ride was held on the 9th June.  Nine members of the club (that is approaching 10%) took part at various distances on a day of mixed weather conditions.

The Dragon Ride is not for the faint hearted with a choice of 4 distances from 100km to an eye watering 298km on the day (and an option to do 2 days riding prior to the main event) it is certainly a challenge.  That said if you want to do a big hill (or two) on a bike then these may be the ones to do.  The Bwlch and Rhigos, while they are certainly long (and pretty high), are not that steep and can be cycled up relatively easily as long as you don't try to go too fast and if you are doing the 100km route that really only leaves Cimla to worry about....(although rumour has it they may reverse the route next year...).  Now that has to be worth doing!!

In the event 2 people rode the Macmillan 100km, three did the 153km ride and four completed the 223km ride, all of these with correspondingly impressive climbing figures.

P.S.  On a slightly different note:- I am aware that lots of you are taking part in Sportives of various lengths and hilliness and also touring (next year I'm determined to get out there with my touring bike).  To keep things manageable on the website I will only put those events that involve a high participation from the club in the news pages.  There is a Sportives section on the club forum and I would encourage anyone doing a sportive or touring to enter a report into that section as this could become a useful resource if we all use it. Over the next week or two I will be making sure that all new members have Forum logins posted out to them.  This will mean that everyone should be able to post reports of Sportive rides in the Sportive section of the Forum and to join in with the general chit chat that takes place there. In the meantime, if you don't have a login, please send me your reports and I will pop them onto the Forum for you.
